July's Intention: Bring The Heat
Let’s get rumbling and bring the heat.
In honor of my birthday today, and July’s intention of “Bringing The Heat” the best and only way to Redirect To Joy (YESyoga’s 2021 Theme) is to rumble.
Brené Brown defines rumble as: "a discussion, conversation, or meeting defined by a commitment to lean into vulnerability, to stay curious and generous, to stick with the messy middle of problem identification and solving, to take a break and circle back when necessary, to be fearless in owning our parts, and, as psychologist Harriet Lerner teaches, to listen with the same passion with which we want to be heard.”
This month, I am committed to rumbling to help lean into possibility, creativity, and success.
I’m normally a very honest and sometimes intense person. During my teenage and early adult years (especially college), I leaned on my honesty a lot, but I did it while giving myself permission to be an asshole.
I love Brené Brown’s quote, “Clear is kind.” However, there is definite a fine line of being clear, and honesty to hurt.
This month, whether you rumble with yourself, your partner, your work people, and even your kids, where can you be clear and kind? Where can you show strength with your vulnerability? Where can you listen when you want to speak?
Sometimes when the conversation isn’t working, the best thing to do is to bring the heat of rumbling. Knowing I am committed to possibility, creativity, and success that helps drive the conversation and the rumble in an upward way instead of straight to “you’re an asshole, and here is why….”
Knowing you’ll be met with challenge at some point this month, commit to your vision, your goals, your passions and bring the heat so that you can level up your life even more.
The only way to set your rumble up for success, is to set yourself up before you even start. Know how you self-sabotage hard conversations and recognize that person, who isn’t you - it’s just all in your head, and be for possibility. From there your best YESself can show up, can rumble, and can create through vulnerability, creativity, and self-expression.
Some rumbling language starters by Brené Brown are:
- The story I make up is
- I’m curious about
- Tell me more
- That’s not my experience
- I’m wondering
- Help me understand
- Walk me through that
- What’s your passion around this
- Tell me why this doesn’t fit/work for you
It’s time to bring the heat this month. Where can you light a small fire to ignite more possibility into your life?
